When Will British Gas Pay The £400

According to British Gas, customers will receive the £400 rebate in monthly instalments from October 2022 to March 2023. These instalments will be as follows:

  • October – £66
  • November – £66
  • December – £67
  • January – £67
  • February – £67
  • March – £67

Customers whose bill amounts to less than £66 or £67 per month will still receive the same amount.

They will be able to continue using the £400 rebate to pay for their electricity after March 2023, until they have used it up.

You do not need to apply to British Gas to receive the £400 energy rebate. If you’re a British Gas customer, the company will issue it to you automatically.

 

How Will British Gas Pay The £400

British Gas customers who pay by direct debit will receive the money straight back into their bank account, like a refund, after their direct debit has gone through.

If your monthly direct debit is lower than the value of the rebate, the remaining amount will be added to your energy account.

British Gas Energy Grant

The British Gas Energy Support Fund was created in late 2021 with an initial £2m investment in response to the cost-of-living crisis.

A further £4m was donated in the first half of 2022.

This new fund is designed to help British Gas customers with an energy debt of between £250 and £1,500.

British Gas customers in fuel poverty and with less than £1,000 in savings are eligible to apply for a grant.

Once you have sought advice, the British Gas Energy Trust may be able to provide a grant if you are struggling to pay off gas or electricity debt.

Please note grants over £1,500 will only be considered in exceptional circumstances.

As part of your application, we will want to understand how you will be able to manage your energy costs in future.

 

Debt Relief Grants

Our debt relief grants are available to both British Gas customers and customers of other energy suppliers.

If you are struggling with domestic gas and electricity debts owed to British Gas or other suppliers you can apply for a grant from us to clear that debt.

The Fund is open to BG and non-BG customers with an energy debt between £250 and £1500 –

When Will British Gas Pay The  £400

The Energy Bills Support Scheme (EBSS ) has been set up  by the Government to help everyone in the UK  with their energy bills.

This help will be in the way of a  £400 discount on their electricity bills.

This is paid through your energy account over six months from October 2022 to March 2023.

For people who are off the gas grid, a new support package will be launched in Feb 2023

This  is called Alternative Fuel Payment will be paid to eligible households through their electricity accounts.

 

Alternative Fuel Payment

Households that use alternative fuels for heating (such as biomass, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) or heating oil) will receive a single £200 payment.

This payment  will be in the form of  a voucher  sent by post which should be with you by end of February.

You can then redeem your voucher at the Post Office within 3 months of receipt or it will expire.

As you know British Gas will not be the cheapest for replacing your boiler.  Prices usually start from £3000 up to £5000 and more.

How Much Does A New Boiler Cost?

The average cost of replacing a gas boiler on a like for like basis is usually around £2300  and anywhere up to £3000 depending on who you choose as your installer assuming no extras are needed.
It is worth your while exploring the possibility of you being eligible for a subsidised boiler from the government.

This depends on the type of installation you need.  A typical combi boiler swap or regular/system boiler should cost around £2000 -£2,500.If you require a more complex conversion, your new boiler will cost you around £3,000 -£3500

How Much Money Do You Save By Replacing Your Boiler?

By replacing your old, in-efficient or broken boiler with a brand new, A-rated boiler you could reduce your energy bills by up to £300 per/year.

Example – If your current boiler is only 65% efficient, (back boilers are notoriously inefficient) this means that for every £1 you spend on your heating, 35p is quite literally being wasted.

Modern condensing boilers are 90% + efficient so you will only waste   10p for every £1 spent on heating.

The British Gas Energy Support Fund

Thanks to British Gas, the Trust has opened a new energy support fund to help the most financially vulnerable British Gas customers, who are struggling to pay their energy bills.

This fund, has been set up in response to the increasing cost of living and rising inflation, including Ofgem’s most recent price cap increase.

Through the fund, thousands of eligible British Gas customers with fuel debt of £250 to £1,500, can apply for grants to help pay their energy bills over the coming months.

The fund will remain open until all the money invested has been awarded.
