Eco 4 Grants Report -Lead Gen Diary Mar 18 2023

Not written a journal for a while.

This has been due to being extremely busy in Eco 4.

Indeed, while others are complaining about Eco 4 and its very tough criteria, I have never been so busy.

I am finding that REJECTING SO MANY DESERVING LEADS ON A DAILY BASIS IS A FULL TIME JOB ! 🙁

I jest not.

Here is my take  and report on Eco 4  which I warn may be upsetting for many lead gens!

Eco 4 –  A Bitter Pill To Swallow.

Eco 4 Grants Scheme has been live for approx 9 months now and it does seem to be massively challenging for most of the Eco industry.

I believe that many people have struggled to find  good leads and loads of jobs will have gone down.

I think that the only people that are doing well are those with many years experience in the game and those  companies who have loads of leads coming in so can cherry pick the best payers.

Eco 4 Criteria – Will It change.

It does not look like it unfortunately.

Going on for over 9 months with no change  from BEIS or Ofgem  does look like they are content with this scheme  ( that less than 1% of the UK now qualifies for a grant) and that they will be continuing with the status quo.

Whilst concentrating on the worst rated houses EPC ratings of E -F – G  does make sense, allowing some of these homes to get funding of up to £100 k  is shocking !

Loads of people in fuel poverty  living in small 1 bed homes etc can get nothing as usual.

SO UNFAIR.

Where are the protests from INSULATE UK about this.

I may join them and glue myself to the M6 on one of the weekends.

Why Is Eco 4 So Hard ?

I believe that  over 80% of grant applications are rejected now due to Eco 4 criteria.

Probably more if the truth is told.

Grants are now only available to EPC  homes EFG which really means ONLY SOLID WALL PROPERTIES are eligible.

Most ( if not all ) cavity wall homes are being rejected for grant funding for boilers  and these homes will only be considered for a grant if they have 50 other measures too, to make the money up. ☺️

ABS RATES

This is the new scoring mechanism  for Eco 4 and stands for Annual Bill Savings.

This is the rate that an installer can claim for doing installs.

Lead Gens are being paid £1.50 – £2.50 for leads on average  which can be very lucrative for some leads.

 Eco 4 Boilers

The criteria is SO HARD now.

I believe only  59 boilers have now been exchanged in the last 9 months ( only joking )

I dont think many have reached the finishing line and probably only a few thousand have been fitted.

Some installers are asking for an insulation measure too ( they dont want much !)

IT IS HARD ENOUGH NOW TO GET A QUALIFYING  BOILER SINGLE MEASURE  NEVER MIND INSULATION TOO !

I am happy to supply dual measure boilers  at £ 10 ABS however. Please contact me ASAP.

Eco 4 Boiler criteria

Boiler applicants need to be aware that to qualify :

• EPC must be E-F -G
• Boiler must be a back boiler or
• be a non condensing boiler fitted before 2005
• You must be a home owner or live with the owner

Boiler Application Findings

It seems that people dont read the criteria before applying.

They see the word FREE and that is all they need.

• Lots of  C & D rated people are applying ( dustbin)
• Lots of condensers applying   ( dustbin)
• People (who have got wise)   are stating they have a backboiler fitted which are all non condensing
• people are mistating the boiler age ( we check the Gas Safe register anyway but nice try)

On the plus side………there are no more ” Broken 5 Year old Boilers” be exchanged. ☺️

Free Insulation

Lots of people applying for free insulation in gas homes that are all being rejected.

Again they are in C & D homes which are not eligible once again

Storage heaters

I did well the last 2 years with these but I am not aware of anyone changing these heaters.

This is a shame as a lot of tenants live in electric heated homes who will be really struggling to heat their homes.

Heat Pumps

I am hearing that only the largest homes in Wales & Scotland with electric or oil heating can qualify for a heat pump.

Electric homes with a gas meter fitted  are not eligible though.

I am hearing that solid wall homes with a condensing gas boiler do qualify for a pump though as long as it is over 100 sq meters.

FTCH

Loads of people chasing Ftch and I am seeing loads of Ads on Google and Facebook etc for this unicorn measure.

People are paying £2.50 ABS  for this now and I believe the price will go up as there are non around to be had.

Eco 4 +

The new scheme called Eco + is supposed to be live next month.

This scheme to run alongside Eco 4 will target  Council Tax Bands  A – D and will allow these homes to access heating & Insulation upgrades on favourable terms.

Whether they will be free or need some contribution has yet to be announced though.

As no news has been announced in the press lately, it probably means a big delay as usual.

I cant wait to see all the hoops you will need to  jump through in order to be eligible.

Park Home Grants

There was supposed to be some news on the long awaited park home scheme after Xmas.

I am still waiting!

Lots of demand from people living in these homes and they must be freezing living in a shed on wheels!

I eagerly wait for news as I have over 100 leads going cold!

Have You Any Eco 4 Leads?

On average I am getting around 5 requests per week  for Eco 4 leads from all people that are coming out of the woodwork in search of gold

They have obviously heard of the MASSIVE payments available !

I believe that finding a qualifying lead is now extremely difficult too.

CONCLUSION

I hope there are some major changes to this scheme soon as it is soooooooooooo difficult for a lead gen to find good leads.

Joe Public will lose confidence in these schemes too and will stop applying.

I can see government having  to force entry into houses in order to insulate them in the near future too !
