The eligibility has changed for the Government Free Boiler Scheme for 2023
To qualify you have to meet all of the following conditions :
- You are A Homeowner or live with the home owner
- You receive a qualifying benefit
- Your Boiler is non condensing ( over 17 years old without a plastic pipe leading to outside ) OR
- You have a BACKBOILER fitted behind the fire
- Your Home Is Epc Rated E -F -G

If your home has an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of D or below, you may be able to get help for energy-saving improvements through the Energy Company Obligation (ECO) Scheme 2023.
Is There Free Boiler Replacement For Disabled
There are no grants for people claiming only disability benefits.
The government removed DLA & PIP etc from qaulifying for a free boiler last year. You will need to be in receipt of an income based benefit to qualify under the new Eco 4 criteria.
What’s the ECO scheme?
Under the government’s ECO scheme, British Gas provides funding for improvements that make your home more energy efficient.
If you’re a home-owner, on one of the qualifying benefits and your home has an EPC rating of D or below, you may be suitable for the scheme.

Are Free Boilers Installed By British Gas ?
No. British Gas ( and all the other Energy Companies ) are funding the Free Boiler Scheme and other energy saving measures via a fuel levy on every bill.
All installers on this scheme have all been approved by the Government and been given the funding to operate. All installs are subject to meeting strict criteria and come with a 2 year warranty as standard.
British Gas Free Boilers for Pensioners
Pensioners are eligible for a free boiler from British Gas if In receipt of Pension Credit.
Guarantee or Savings Credit are both qualifying benefits.
All pensioners in receipt of a means tested benefit such as Universal Credit or Pension Credit will be eligible to apply for a free boiler . This is assuming their home EPC is an E -F- G and the boiler is over 18 years old too.
